Over the past ten years, the relationship between Norway and Sweden has become increasingly important for the growth of both countries. The border region between Oslo and Gothenburg is a growth engine which has great potential to grow even more. In this area, contacts across the Norwegian-Swedish border are denser than anywhere else.
The Svinesund committeehas a clear focus on supporting the innovative environment in the border region. An important task is also to strengthen collaborations between businesses, academia, municipalities, and other public actors on both sides of the border. Additionally, we work to increase development efforts – at both the local, regional, and Nordic levels. Our work is driven as long-term processes that are project-funded, with activities in several focus areas. The aim is to create more jobs and strengthen the cross-border regional added value.
Wood in focus for business opportunities, innovations, and sustainability. The experience and knowledge gained in ‘Rethinking wood’ are carried forward in the project ‘Bioeconomy Regions in Scandinavia.’ The focus areas include sustainable wood construction, innovations from the forest, fossil-free packaging, and residual streams.

One of our focus areas is tourism. This is one of the world’s fastest-growing industries, which also holds great significance for the Svinesund region. We are currently working on developing a more sustainable tourism linked to our attractive but sensitive environments.
